Definitions: Personal Watercraft Overview
- HANDLEBARS:
- These are the PWC’s steering system. The operator turns the handlebars from left to right to control the direction of the PWC.
- THROTTLE:
- Located on the right handlebar, this lever is squeezed or released to control the speed of the PWC. You must apply throttle power in order to steer the PWC!
- SAFETY LANYARD & ON/OFF SWITCH:
- Attached to the on/off switch at one end, and to the operator at the other end. If you fall off the PWC, the lanyard will release and the engine will shut down immediately.
- SEAT:
- Designed to be straddled by the rider while the PWC is in operation. Some PWC seats will be designed to accommodate multiple passengers (guests).
- JET-THRUST NOZZLE:
- High-powered water is forced through this piece of equipment to propel the PWC forward. NEVER start the engine or operate the PWC if a passenger (guest) is positioned behind the nozzle.
- JET INTAKE:
- This piece of equipment sucks water through a grate located at the bottom of the craft. The water is then forced through the PWCs impeller and out through the jet-thrust nozzle.
