Module 02 - Boating Rules, Regulations, and Equipment

Emergency Kit

Although not required, boat operators are encouraged to carry an emergency kit on their boat at all times. The kit should be stored in a watertight plastic bag and should include:

  • Emergency food and drinking water
  • A first aid kit
  • Waterproof matches
  • A waterproof flashlight
  • A knife
  • A whistle
  • Dry clothing

Repair Kit

Although repair kits are not mandatory safety equipment, as a responsible boat operator you should carry one on board your boat at all times.

Your boats repair kits should include essential tools, spare parts for your boat, and items that can be used to stop hull leaks, such as tapered wooden plugs, underwater sealing compounds, patch kits, and duct tape.
