SAFE LOADING GUIDELINES FOR SUP BOARDS

Truthfully, you don’t want to carry much on your board aside from your required safety equipment and a water bottle if you’re going for a long paddle. SUP boards are designed to transport YOU—not you, your cooler, your dog and your best friend. Here are some safe loading guidelines to follow:

Step 1: Check with the manufacturer and ensure that the combined weight of you and your gear does not exceed the recommended gross load capacity of the SUP board.

Step 2: Wear a properly-fitted, Canadian-approved life jacket or PFD.

Step 3: Position your weight so that it’s equally distributed and balanced.

Step 4: Avoid making sudden movements once on board.

Step 5: Securely fasten any equipment you’ve taken with you to prevent uncontrolled weight shifting once you’re underway.

Step 6: Wear a waist pouch or backpack that’s designed for SUP boarding to prevent the loss of your gear or personal items if you fall off the board!
