Module 04 - Safe Boat Operation

THE COLLISION REGULATIONS

The Collision Regulations are the rules that help prevent collisions on Canada’s waterways. They apply to all boats and to all waterways in Canada. The Collision Regulations govern the following:

  • Boat navigation
  • Right-of-way rules
  • Look-out rules

What are your responsibilities?

As a Canadian boater, you are required to know, understand, and follow Canada’s navigation rules at all times.

This means always using good judgement and staying alert in case other boat operators are not following the navigation rules.  Always operate your boat with caution, and never assume that you know the action that another boat operator is going to take.

The Collision Regulations require all boat operators to keep a proper lookout on the water by both sight and hearing at all times.
