DEHYDRATION
Heat, sun and exercise can all lead to dehydration because the body tries to cool itself by sweating. Dehydration can lead to stomach cramps, which is very dangerous if you fall overboard and are attempting to swim and stay above the water.
Symptoms: Watch out for headache, thirst, confusion, fatigue, dry mouth, dry skin, dizziness or fainting when standing up.
How to Treat Dehydration:
- Get the victim out of the sun and have them stop all physical activity.
- HYDRATE! Fluids with electrolytes and sodium are the best options.
- If the dehydration conditions worsen, seek medical attention immediately.
