Module 06 - MUZZLELOADERS 101
UNLOADING A MUZZLELOADER
There are several ways to unload a muzzleloader. Use one of the following techniques:
- Unload your muzzleloader by firing it at a suitable backstop. Do not fire into the air or into the ground at your feet in case the projectile ricochets.
- Use a CO2 discharger to clear the barrel.
- For flintlock muzzleloaders: Place the discharger against the touchhole.
- For caplock muzzleloaders: Slip the discharger over the nipple.
There are also kits with screw-tips that allow you to attach the tip to the ramrod, drill it into the ammunition, and pull it out manually. You would then use a hooked (jag) tip to pull the patch out and remove the powder.
