Module 06 - MUZZLELOADERS 101
CLEANING A MUZZLELOADER
You have to remove the corrosive residue that builds up in your muzzleloader as a result of being fired. To properly clean your muzzleloader, you’ll need a big bucket or tub that’s full of hot, soapy water. Dish detergents work just fine. Remove the barrel and soak it in the water. Put a patch and cleaning cloth on the ramrod and then pump the ramrod up and down the length of the barrel. Make sure to draw water into the barrel with the pressure. Then, remove the muzzleloader from the water and continue pumping the bore with your ramrod and dry patches until the patches come out clean and dry. Your final step is to lube up the bore with an oiled patch.
