Module 07 - MARKSMANSHIP
PRONE POSITION
The prone position (a belly flop pose) is the steadiest shooting position and is the best option for new hunters. In prone, it’s much easier to control your breathing, your heart rate and to follow through while firing. Long grass or shrubs may get in the way of your target and rocks underneath you won’t do your comfort level any favors, so pick a good spot. Prone position is definitely the best bet for making accurate shots at a long distance.
Shooting in Prone Position
If right-handed, lie on your stomach with your body angled slightly to the left, keeping your back straight and your legs relaxed. Your upper body will support the weight of the firearm. If you bring your right leg slightly up towards your chest, your torso will rise off the ground and minimize the effect that your heartbeat and breathing have on your shot.
Lefty?
If left-handed, lie on your stomach with your body angled slightly to the right, keeping your back straight and your legs relaxed. Bring your left leg up slightly to raise your torso off the ground.
