Module 07 - MARKSMANSHIP

SHOTGUN MARKSMANSHIP

Aim

Shotgun shooting is a totally different ball game. Unlike the precision and stillness of rifle shooting, with a shotgun you simply point at or ahead of the target while moving. Shotguns are used on flying or fast moving targets, like ducks. So, accurate shotgun shooting requires a fast sequence of movements involving the body, the shotgun and the eyes in one smooth, fluid motion.

Grip

Your leading hand (non-trigger hand) holds the shotgun’s forestock (under the barrel) and points naturally to the target area, which is just ahead of the moving target. Like with a rifle, you want to grip the shotgun firmly but not too tightly. Allow a little give for the recoil.
