Good prep for choosing your stand location would be to look closely at a satellite image of the hunting area. Is there a spot where two or more ridges, fence lines, ditches or tree lines meet? These kinds of cross roads and the edge-lines of hunting areas are the sweet spots where you’ll be most likely to spot deer.

Wise Words: Rumor Has It

Some hunters believe that it’s better to hunt deer from a ground blind in the morning and from a treestand at night. It’s a dusty, old rumor... but it has roots. Deer are most active in the early morning when they’re searching open areas (i.e. ground blind territory) for food and water and they tend to hunker down in the woods (i.e. treestand territory) later in the day when they’re looking for shade, shelter or a place to bed down for the night.
