Module 11 - IN THE FIELD

KNOW YOUR LIMIT

If you catch yourself thinking about how high up you are… you’re probably too high. Know your comfort level and don’t exceed the height recommended by the manufacturer. Generally though, most elevated stands should be no higher than 10 feet above the ground. Consider that your benchmark.

Be like a sloth, not like Spiderman. Your movements while climbing should be slow and your reach should be no more than 10-12 inches at a time. Always follow the ‘three-point’ rule when climbing or moving around on the platform: Two hands and one foot, or two feet and one hand must be touching the surface at all times.

In a nutshell, you’ve got to get yourself up, you’ve got to get your stuff up, and then once everything’s up, you sit down in the stand and hunt. When ready to head south, you get your stuff down first, then you get down, then you get your stand down.

Wise Words: Brace for the Blast

Before you take your first shot from a treestand, remember to steady yourself and prepare for the blast of the recoil, or it could knock you right out off the platform.
