Module 14 - SURVIVAL
SNAKEBITES
In some regions (especially the Southwest), you may bump into a venomous snake while on the hunt. Don’t stick around to say hello to Mr. Long & Skinny. Rattlers and cottonmouths are the most dangerous snakes out there but you should really steer clear of all snakes.
If someone in your group is bitten by a snake, NEVER try to suck the poison out with your mouth—that ‘rescue technique’ is a complete myth—but you will need to act quickly by doing the following:
- Immediately move away from the area where the snake is located.
- Calm the person who has been bitten. They might be freaking out.
- Keep the bitten area as far away from the heart area as possible (to prevent the poison from moving toward the heart).
- Get them to a professional medic ASAP for further treatment.
