Many paddlers prefer inflatable styles for their comfort—and you probably will too. However, you must remember that in order to be Coast Guard-approved, inflatable styles must be maintained regularly and kept in good working order.

Modern inflatable styles may have replaced the classic ‘orange foamies’ of the past, but the technology comes with a price—inflatables must be maintained more often than other types of life jackets because of their specialized features. Look to the label or information booklet to find the maintenance recommendations for your inflatable.
