UNIQUE ACCIDENT RISKS FOR HUNTERS AND ANGLERS
The American Canoe Association (ACA) reports that roughly half of the people killed in canoeing or kayaking accidents were fishing at the time of the accident. Additionally, less hunters and anglers die each year from sport-related gunshot wounds than from drowning, hypothermia and the effects of cold water shock. With stats like these, it’s important that hunters and anglers recognize the following risks:
Falling overboard: Falling overboard is a major risk for hunters and anglers because they frequently stand up in the paddle craft to cast a line, to take aim for a shot or to reach for a decoy.
Overloading: When you combine heavy sporting gear or an unbalanced load with passengers who are frequently standing and moving around in the paddle craft, the risk of capsizing will increase.
Type of Watercraft: Kayaks and canoes are much more likely to capsize than other fishing or hunting boat types.
