HEAT EXHAUSTION

Heat exhaustion is caused by extreme dehydration. With this heat-related illness, the body has failed to replenish fluids that were lost from excessive sweating.

Symptoms: A victim of heat exhaustion will appear sweaty and pale (or flushed) and their skin will feel cool and clammy to touch. They may also experience fatigue, headache, nausea, dizziness and vomiting.

How to Treat Heat Exhaustion:

  • Move the victim to a cool area.
  • Loosen their clothes.
  • Apply a cool compress.
  • Slowly reintroduce fluids.
  • Monitor the victim for symptoms of shock.
  • Seek medical treatment for further assessment and treatment.
