THE TOP 6 SAFETY RULES FOR RIDERS

SAFETY FIRST

We all know that feeling. Waking up in the morning and realizing the world has become a snow-coated playground overnight. We get it. You can't resist the thrill of getting out there on your sled and carving up the powder.

Just remember to do it right, even if you're only planning a quick tour, your safety must be your #1 priority.

The rules listed here are simple to follow and the risks for not following them are huge. You can prevent injuries, accidents and even tragic deaths from happening by simply committing to these ‘Top 6 Rider Rules’:

  1. DO A PRE-RIDE INSPECTION. Is the machine good-to-go mechanically? Do you have a full tank of gas? When is the last time the machine was serviced?
  2. PREPARE FOR THE RIDE. How’s the weather looking? Is your trip mapped out? Did you prepare a Trip Plan to leave behind?
  3. DRESS FOR SURVIVAL. Always wear a helmet, eye protection, gloves, and all of the appropriate clothing and gear for cold weather.
  4. STAY IN CONTROL. Maintain a safe speed at all times, consider the terrain conditions and don’t take risks.
  5. RIDE SOBER. Never consume drugs or alcohol before a ride or during operation.
  6. RIDE TOGETHER. Always hit the trails in groups or with a buddy. No solo rides.

RIDER SAFETY TIP: SLEDS DON'T FLOAT

AVOID THE ICE. If you aren’t 100% sure that’s frozen solid, avoid it. As a rule, stay away from ice-covered waterways. If you MUST ride on the ice, wear a life jacket or float suit. Try to stick to marked trails whenever possible, and never ride over ice that you know has moving water under it or if there’s moving water nearby. These moving waterways, like rivers, will be sketchy at best.
