Module 03 - Servicing & Transporting Your Sled

HOW TO USE TILT-BED TRAILERS

When loading a 2-Capacity Tilt-Bed Trailer, it's important to have TWO people to complete the following loading process:

STEP 1

One person holds the trailer down in the tilted position, while the second person drives the machine onto the trailer.

STEP 2

To load the first machine, slowly drive the machine about half way up the tilted bed. Then stop the machine and turn it off.

STEP 3

Have the second person pull the front skis while also pushing down on the trailer bed, to pull the sled into position on the trailer.

STEP 4

Alternatively, if the trailer is equipped with a winch, attach it to the machine and use it to winch the sled forward. If it's not equipped with a winch you may need to dismount from the snowmobile and help the second person pull the snowmobile towards the front of the trailer.

STEP 5

Once the sled has been pulled forward, secure the tilt bed with fastening pins.

STEP 6

Engage the parking brake on the sled and use the trailer’s tie down points to secure the machine to the trailer.

STEP 7

The trailer will be equipped with a rod or bar which will be placed across the skis. The rod will be held in place at the outside ends by a snap pin. Trailers equipped with a bar will be screwed into the trailer deck at the center of the trailer bed.

STEP 8

Tie down the rear of the machine to the trailer using ratchet straps.

If loading a second machine:

STEP 1

Begin by removing the tilt pin and tilting the trailer bed back down.

STEP 2

Repeat the loading process used for the first machine, and then secure the tilt pin back in place. If there are 3 people available to load the machine, both snowmobiles can be loaded simultaneously.

To unload a sled from a Tilt-Bed Trailer, follow these steps:

STEP 1

Remove all tie downs and straps and remove all fastening pins.

STEP 2

Release the brake and SLOWLY ease the machine backwards.

STEP 3

If the machine is equipped with reverse, slowly drive backwards. If it's not equipped with reverse carefully pull the sled backwards until it has been removed from the trailer bed.
