There are a couple important things to remember when you’re parking your sled. First, don’t just leave it anywhere and definitely don’t just leave it anywhere with the keys in the ignition. Straight up, snowmobiles aren’t that difficult to steal and sled theft is a rapidly growing problem. Secondly, use your common sense and be courteous to other trail users. Make sure you’re not parked in the way of other vehicles, like in the middle of a trail, parking lot or at the entrance to a driveway.

The best way to prevent theft is to make your sled difficult to steal. If this is something you’re worried about, try the following:

• Lock your sled up if you’re leaving it unattended in a public place. Use heavy chains or cables to attach your sled to a large tree or sturdy post.
• Keep your machine locked up indoors if you're going away for an extended period of time. Leaving a sled outside while you're on vacation is basically an invitation to thieves.
