RIDING DOWNHILL
Before descending a hill, take a moment to evaluate the terrain for any obstacle or hazards. If there’s no existing trail, select your downhill path and follow these steps:
STEP 1
Move into the sitting position (if you're not already sitting).
STEP 2
Shift your weight backward toward the upside of the hill to maintain your balance and to keep your feet firmly planted on the runners.
STEP 3
As you start to descend, apply the brakes gradually to stay at a slow, safe speed (gravity should do most of the work here to get you down the hill). NEVER slam on the brakes when going downhill. This will cause the sled to slide and you’ll lose control.
STEP 4
Continue to look ahead for any obstacles or hazards that may be in your path.
STEP 5
Traveling with a passenger? Make sure they know to mimic your movements.
