HUMANS & HORSES ON THE TRAIL
On public trails, like those in state parks, you’ll likely encounter other trail users. Don’t forget that non-motorized trail traffic like hikers, skiers and horseback riders will always have the right of way. They will also be SILENT on approach so you must SEE them to know they’re there. Stay alert, look well ahead and constantly scan the trail to look out for anyone who may be in your path.
The thing about horses is – they’re big, strong and they usually spook easily. The sound, speed and look of your machine (and you`re helmet) will probably startle a horse and make the animal dangerous for both you and the horseback rider. So when you see a horse approaching, make sure you slow down, pull over, stay still and take off your helmet. Wait like a patient old pine tree until the horse is well past you before starting your machine back up and continuing on your way.
