Module 05 - Rider Responsibility

KIDS & SNOWMOBILES

Your sled was not designed for a 6-year old to drive.

A small child on a full size sled will NOT be able to reach the handles and foot runners properly and they won’t have the strength to properly squeeze the brake and throttle. Additionally, if they’re wearing an adult helmet, it won’t properly protect their head if they crash. FAR too many children have been killed or badly injured in snowmobile accidents because they were too small or too inexperienced to be operating the machine.

Little kids should only operate machines with lower horsepower that are smaller and designed specifically for children. They should always be supervised and they should also receive proper training to operate their machine. Children tend to take risks and to think of their machines as ‘toys’ rather than as motorized vehicles. Make sure they’ve received safety training for the state where they’ll be operating and always ride with them to keep an eye on their activity… and their wipeouts.
