Fair enough, there’s a lot to learn about surviving in the outdoors and knowing how to prevent and be prepared for the risks of winter riding. To refresh yourself before a trip, refer to this list.
We’ve summarized the top 10 survival rules for you:
- Always wear your helmet and protective gear.
- Never travel alone. Take a buddy.
- Leave a completed Trip Plan with someone you trust.
- Pack a First Aid Kit and know how to deal with injuries.
- Pack a Survival Kit (with a 2-day supply of food and water).
- Check the weather before you go and dress for it (layer up!).
- Carry mapping tools: Trail maps, topographic maps, a compass and a GPS.
- Take a fully charged cell phone.
- Know how to build a fire and shelter.
- Know how to signal for help.
